Kaleidoscope: the envelope face, undefined & redesigned

09/01/2013 19:21

The habitual act of placing stamps in the top right-hand corner of an envelope and the address in the middle appears to originate from the layout of the 'stamped papers' that predated loose stamps. Such papers had their pre-printed 'stamp' in the upper-right corner, which cemented the future custom of upper-right stamp placement within the public psyche. But can the envelope face of our letters reach a new aesthetic level by undoing and redesigning these embedded urges of standardisation?

Pictured below is one rearranged result. It presents the recipient with a less automatic-looking piece of correspondence, and at the same time lends a uniqueness that boosts its impact in that mysterious moment of envelope opening. Also included below is the letter that was sent in this envelope. Our associative project is indeed spreading!
